Miswak Rasoolillah (saaws) used to brush his teeth with Miswak every time he made wudu (ablutions) for prayers.
He (saaws) also said prayer after using miswak with the wudu is better than the prayer without the miswak 70 times.
Miswak is the fibrous root of a tree. It's end is trimmed to expose the inner fibers and used to brush the teeth. Scientists have proven that brushing the teeth often prevents tooth decay. They have also brought evidence that a certain element in Miswak is a tooth decay preventative and a medicine for the mouth. Miswak, being a part of a plan comes in various sizes, shapes and colors. It is also available dry or moist. The moist Miswak (fresh) is slightly sharp in taste. Dendasa is the inner bark of the walnut tree. It is used similarly to the Miswak. However it tends to be much sharper. Fresh Dendasa will add an orange or reddish tinge to the gums and inner lips. It is not advised to be used as often as Miswak. But it cleans the teeth to an incredible shine. Though I have not found a hadith for Dendasa, it is a traditionally used item in all of Pakistan.
